A very early novel in the career of award-winning Austrian-born American author and writer Frederic Morton (1924 – 2015), his only other work listed at the time within this book is ‘The Darkness Below ‘. ‘Asphalt and Desire ‘ published by Secker & Warburg, London in 1953, 1st UK edition, 8vo (7.25in x 5in), 282 pages. The book was first published in the US in 1952 by Harcourt Brace & Co. Original grey boards lettered in dark blue to spine, in overall at least good condition, rounding/wear to rear corners, slight pushing at foot of spine, the book has a degree of lean which has left front board slightly ‘ajar’ when flat. Internally very good, no inscriptions, light tanning/offesetting to endpapers (heavier at rear), pages are clean and tidy, very light foxing spots to top edge and foreedge of text block. Original illustrated dustjacket by Roy Sanford, in overall at least good condition, unclipped at 12s 6d net, chips/nicks at all corners, couple of small closed tears, minor loss at head of spine, light foxing spots to rear panel and inside panels, heavily tanned reverse to inner flaps.
