Curious contents lovely too though some bits are shockingly vile…we have John Thomas Evans and his travels in the US, Missouri River, Indian tribes (Evans made a map and both his words and the map were to prove valuable to Meriwether Lewis & William Clark of Lewis & Clark fame); long descriptions of travels and observations in New York and vicinity, goes on for many pages, all interesting until author starts to speak about “Negro Servants” in an extraordinarily racist manner; Hudson River, Raritan River, Delaware, Woodbridge, New Brunswick, Princeton, Elizabeth, New Jersey, Flatbush, Staten Island, Trenton, Hudson, Albany; Walpoliana!; Journey from New York to Philadelphia; Pennsylvania; Quakers; some Judaica – much on Moses Mendelssohn; Use of Oil as a Cure for the Plague; George Washington pops up; & more. Pages clean if a bit worn and some too-close trimming on sections. One large fold-out engraving of pipes/water flow (only engraving in volume) has split in two.
