Good hardcover in embossed and gilded illustrated cloth boards. Published by Henry Altemus, no date printed assuming around 1890. Numerous illustrations by Gustave Doré. Pages are toned and darkened with age, though clean and free of marks. Overall, binding is tight and square with paste downs very much intact. There are a couple of places where the pages are beginning to loosen and crack, pages 241-256 mostly, though still attached. Significant rip to page 157, though still intact. General wear to the exterior. All flaws can be seen in the photos, feel free to contact for more info or photos. For it’s age, this book is in good shape compared to other copies I’ve seen.

Light/minimal wear from age with some fading to the top edge (where it was likely gilded at one point), gentle cracking inside to the front hinge near the top of the front end-paper (just beginning to weaken slightly, light creak to the board), yellowing paper from age. Binding generally sound. A beautiful, classic edition Milton’s retelling of the Biblical tale of Adam and Eve’s expulsion from the Garden of Eden.
