1934 Dictionnaire Mpongwe-Francais by Andre Raponda-Walker
Dictionnaire Mpongwe-Francais, Suivi D’Elements de Grammaire by L’abbe Andre Raponda-Walker. Published in Paris by Imprimerie de la Libre Lorraine. 1934, 657pp, 9 x 6″ gray cloth, hardcover binding. In good condition with minimal shelf-wear to exterior. Some creasing on tail of spine, and leeching on bottom of front board. Hinges are loose but intact. Age-related toning and foxing to pages throughout folio. Binding is loose in some areas. Previous owner’s handwriting and stamps remain throughout. Please see out photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A linguistic study book from the prestigious library of language scholar Johannes Rahder (1898-1988): Dutch Orientalist, professor of Japanese at the University of Leiden (1931-1946), and Yale University (1947-1965), and once depicted by legendary Langston Hughes in ‘I Wonder, I Wander’, as a “…famous authority on obscure Oriental languages”, after a brief meeting on the Trans-Siberian Railway in 1933. His stamp and pen notations can be found throughout this Myene-French Dictionary. Myene is a Bantu language spoken in Gabon. FORN-SHELF-597-0423-eb0235

The spine end is good with some light wear. The boards and corners are nice with some minor denting and wear. The hinges and binding look good. The pages are good, some staining marks along top gutter on first few pages, some very sparse marks and notes in text, the book is nice.
