Dictionnaire Mpongwe-Francais, Suivi D’Elements de Grammaire by L’abbe Andre Raponda-Walker. Published in Paris by Imprimerie de la Libre Lorraine. 1934, 657pp, 9 x 6″ gray cloth, hardcover binding. In good condition with minimal shelf-wear to exterior. Some creasing on tail of spine, and leeching on bottom of front board. Hinges are loose but intact. Age-related toning and foxing to pages throughout folio. Binding is loose in some areas. Previous owner’s handwriting and stamps remain throughout. A linguistic study book from the prestigious library of language scholar Johannes Rahder (1898-1988): Dutch Orientalist, professor of Japanese at the University of Leiden (1931-1946), and Yale University (1947-1965), and once depicted by legendary Langston Hughes in ‘I Wonder, I Wander’, as a “…famous authority on obscure Oriental languages”, after a brief meeting on the Trans-Siberian Railway in 1933.
