This is a handsome, Civil War-era copy of “The Poetical Works of JOHN MILTON” together with “The Life of Milton, Abridged from Bishop Newton.” 1866; George Routledge and Sons; London. Illustrated with full-page plates by William Harvey. The book is beautifully bound in full leather with gilt borders along the perimeter of the covers, five raised bands with gilt lettering and accents on the spine, marbled end papers, intricate gilt decorations along the edges of the inside covers, and gilt page edges on all sides of the text block. “A New Edition, Carefully Revised from the Text of Thomas Newton.” Included is “PARADISE LOST.”
